October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to mark the occasion, artful hand-decorated bras will adorn storefront windows in Forest Park and Oak Park throughout the month.

“Beauty in the Bra” was conceived by Eden DeGenova, owner of Baubo’s Garden lingerie boutique, 7234 W. Madison St., Forest Park. The exhibit will feature the imaginative works of Dominican University design students in the Specialty Market class of the university’s Apparel Design and Merchandising Department. Students were challenged to create “goddess-themed” art pieces which celebrate “the divine feminine attributes of particular Roman and Greek goddesses,” DeGenova says.

Students are also creating window displays to showcase the bra art pieces as well as providing information about breast cancer.

“The goddess myths universally present women as empowered,” says DeGenova, “wise beings and symbols of inner strength. To me, they represent all of the women who battle breast cancer every day of their lives.”

In addition to Baubo’s Garden, participating Forest Park merchants include: M. Santana, Afkara Shoes, Aveda Skincare & Spa, Fantastic Sams, Chix with Stix, Brioletta Beads & More, Boulevard Fine Arts, Gallery Etcetera, Heels, Moss Modern Flowers LTD, and Camille et Famille.

Muse, Chameleon Clothing and Nora’s Shoe Shop will feature window displays in Oak Park.
