Five home runs in three games translated into wins for the Trinity softball team last week.
Vivi Castellanos hit a two-run blast over the fence in Friday’s shortened 7-2 victory over Walter Lutheran. “There was a lot of wind today so it worked out well,” she said after the win.
Trinity won after three innings when Walter Lutheran conceded the game so that players could go and put on the school’s play that evening.
In Saturday’s doubleheader against Regina Dominican, the Blazers (16-6, 5-2) won both games in five innings, 11-1 and 19-4. The speed of Annie Logisz propelled her to an in-the-park home run for her first at bat in Game 1. In the nightcap, Laura Eichenold hit a two-run homer her first time up.
Monica Albano sailed two over the fence in consecutive at bats to have four RBIs in Game 2.
“I’ve been in a little slump. I thought, I just better hit it hard and they went over the fence,” said Albano.
Lauren Wambach highlighted Trinity’s Senior Day by just missing a home run, but coming away with an RBI triple. The senior finished 2-for-3 in the opener.
“It felt good right off the bat,” said Wambach. “Everyone just went out and had more fun,” she laughed, and in a more serious tone continued, “We’re like a family. I’m going to miss it next year.”
Trinity hosts Guerin today, then Northside College Prep on Friday (both at 4:30 p.m.). Both games will be played at Triton College.
