OPRF wrestlers Ellis Coleman, Ethan Moes, Dan Martin, and Ben Brooks grappled to regional titles in their respective weight classes at Leyden on Saturday.

Coleman improved his impressive overall record to 40-1 by defeating Fenwick’s Chris Dardanes 11-3 in the 125-pound title bout. Moes took first at 112 pounds by forcing a fall on St. Patrick’s Ariel Vazques at 5:31. Martin defeated Adam Schammert of Leyden 8-5 to win at 145 pounds, and Brooks (189-pound weight class) forced a fall on Guerin’s Kris Wantuch at 2:50.

Other top finishers for OPRF included Kendall Hutchinson (104, 4th place), Chris Hampton (130, 4th place), Aaron Minnis (135, 4th place), Jack Dengel (140, 3rd place), Colin Sharpe (152, 3rd place), Colin Weir (160, 3rd place), Nick Zager (171, 4th place), LaQuan Hightower (215, 4th place), and Krys Watkins (heavyweight, 2nd place).

The Huskies, who won the West Suburban (Silver) Conference outright with a perfect record of 6-0, finished second overall at the regional with 213.5 points. Leyden won the regional with 229. OPRF now moves on to the Fenton Sectional in Bensenville this weekend.

Nick, Barnhisal wrap up titles

Nick Dardanes and Bobby Barnhisal led the Fenwick wrestling team to fourth place at the Leyden Regional. Nick Dardanes, a sophomore, won the 119-pound weight division with a 15-7 victory over Leyden senior Isaiah Recinos. Barnhisal improved to 38-1 on the season at 140 pounds by forcing a fall on St. Patrick’s Jimmy DiNino (3:37).

Along with Chris Dardanes finishing second at 125 pounds, the Friars also received excellent finishes from Jordan Chang (145 pounds, 4th place), Marc Riechel (160, 4th place), Kevin Caiafa (171, 3rd place), and Tim Reichel (189, 3rd place).

Huskies push win-streak to 7

The OPRF girls basketball team pushed its win-streak to seven games with a 54-47 overtime win against Hinsdale South at the Fenton Tournament on Monday.

Gabby Cole led the Huskies with 15 points to go along with her seven blocked shots. Casey Blaha and Brittany Smith each scored nine points apiece for the Huskies (19-9, 8-4), who pummeled Downers Grove North 58-39 in their final West Suburban (Silver) Conference game on Friday. Cole also led in that win, scoring 17 points and hauling down 15 rebounds.

Howard, Geoghegan run fast

Zach Howard and Patrick Geoghegan led the OPRF boys track and field team to a 100-44 win over Proviso West on Saturday. Both runners won two events apiece. Howard won the 55-meter dash in 6.5 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.3 seconds. Geoghegan won the 800-meter run in 2:03.3 and the 1600-meter run in 4:37.6.

Kwakwa leads
OPRF to first

The OPRF girls track and field team won their first quad of the indoor season on Saturday. The Huskies scored 81 points, while Hoffman Estates finished with 63, Morgan Park 55, and Willowbrook 14.

The Huskies grabbed seven first-place finishes, including Kristen Kwakwa’s two top finishes. Kwakwa won the 200-meter dash in 27.21 seconds and the 55-meter hurdles in 7.05 seconds.

Other top finishes for OPRF included Katherine Rack’s 800-meter run in 2:26.60 and Kirsten Weismantle’s 8-feet-9-inch vault in the pole vault event.

The Huskies also won the 3200-meter relay (10:22.3) and 4×160 relay (1:26.39).
