Give our mail carriers a break
I agree with Kathy Capone that our Oak Park “mail carriers have been heroic” during our recent long spell of record-breaking snow and arctic weather [Viewpoints, Feb.19].

When the Oak Park village board gathered last Tuesday to receive and discuss the report from HOPE Fair Housing Center that spelled out multiple instances of discrimination in rental housing, it did a lot of things well.

In favor of concealed-carry signs
Count me in favor of concealed-carry signage laws. Every person carrying a concealed weapon should be required to wear a large sign announcing that fact, so I can stay well clear of said person.

Are you against gun violence? Do you actively work toward reducing gun violence? Or do you merely work to take away everyone else’s guns? In that case, you may be a gun-limiter, in favor of a gun-limited society, a society with gun-limited rights for all!

For well over a year, the River Forest District 90 elementary schools have been pushing for major changes to the exterior spaces at Roosevelt Middle School, 7560 Oak St. In planning to notably reduce the parking spaces on a site shared with the adjacent library and park, the schools have inevitably drawn sincere objections.

A study assessing whether Madison Street and North Avenue qualify to be TIF districts should be starting sometime next month.
David Linde, 48, bankruptcy attorney
David E. Linde, 48, a 13-year-resident of Oak Park, died on Feb. 19, 2014 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood of complications from Cystic Fibrosis. Born on April 13, 1965 in Chicago, he was raised in Evergreen Park and graduated from Evergreen Park High School, Carroll College, and John Marshall Law School. He was a practicing bankruptcy attorney.
