Meg O’Malley, 82, Businesswoman, volunteer

Margaret Mary (Meg) O’Malley, 82, died at home on July 7, 2012. Born on April 26, 1930 to George and Margaret Broucek in Oak Park, she attended Ascension Elementary, Trinity High School, and graduated from Rosary College in River Forest. She married Edward F. O’Malley in 1954.

What Eric Larson brought to Oak Park and River Forest

If you saw Eric’s letter to the editor [The ‘cheese guy’ says farewell, Viewpoints, May 9], he referenced the first time he and I met each other in the original store. I don’t remember what kind of cheese Eric sold me, but I do remember being filled to the brim with admiration for both Eric and his wife Michelle — not only because of the guts they both had in terms of opening the original store, but also because of the respect they held for cheese makers, small farms, and community.

Lap swimming at Ridgeland Pool in Oak Park

Cap on, goggles raccooning my eyes, I stand shivering in the shallows, and then hop in place, hop a little deeper, but still refuse the jolt of full submersion. Past the backstroke flags I start to swim, head bobbing above the scrim. No matter how often I come here to Ridgeland Pool, my body resists, never trusting, never believing that this is what it wants, what it needs.

Windmills 10U sweep Oak Lawn tourney

The Oak Park Windmills 10U softball team won the 35th Annual Oak Lawn Softball Tournament recording a perfect record.  The Windmills beat the Downers Grove Outlaws handily with the long ball and won the championship by crushing the Central Illinois Diamonds 12-0.
