Meg O'Malley

Margaret Mary (Meg) O’Malley, 82, died at home on July 7, 2012. Born on April 26, 1930 to George and Margaret Broucek in Oak Park, she attended Ascension Elementary, Trinity High School, and graduated from Rosary College in River Forest. She married Edward F. O’Malley in 1954.

When he died in 1974, she started a new career in accounting, and retired as an executive at a financial services firm in Chicago in 1993. In retirement she volunteered for the Oak Park Conservatory and the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust. She loved to travel, often taking her grandchildren along to share her passion for discovery. She played bridge with her good friends and was an excellent cook with rare exceptions (ask her children about the Chicken Luau).

An extraordinarily strong woman, she finally succumbed to cancer after a four-year battle.

Meg O’Malley is survived by her children, Michael, Kevin (Robin), Peg (Jeff) Kamibayashi, Tim, Sean (Ann), and Kate (Dan) Branand; her grandchildren, Kyle, Jack, Claire, Brian, Owen, Scottie, Sean-Paul and Daniel; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her siblings, George (Marge) Broucek, Jeanne Klein, Barbara (Dave) Lesh and the late Richard.

Visitation will be held at Drechsler, Brown & Williams, 203 S Marion St. in Oak Park from 3 to 9 p.m., July 11. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., July 12, at St. Giles Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Doctors Without Borders (doctorswithoutborders.com) are appreciated.
