Join the Historical Society of Oak Park-River Forest for the 34th Annual “Tale of the Tombstones” Cemetery Walk on Sunday, Oct. 19. Take a walking tour of Forest Home Cemetery, featuring actors portraying some of the notable people laid to rest there.
This year’s theme is “American Dreams … American Nightmares.” Costumed actors will tell the stories from the grave of past residents who made their fortunes in our villages and lived what many consider the American Dream. Victims of the Eastland disaster and Iroquois Theatre fire will be among the nightmares portrayed.
Visitors can amble through this historic and beautiful cemetery, led by trained guides who will point out impressive monuments, mysterious symbols, and burial traditions that span 150 years.
Tours depart from the cemetery’s main gate in 10-minute intervals between 12 and 1:30 p.m., and will last approximately 1.5 hours.
Advance registration is highly recommended, and those who have not registered in advance may be turned away. When purchasing tickets, please select an available tour time. We may contact you to adjust your chosen time based on availability.
Tickets are $25 or $20 for members and may be purchased in our online History Store, by calling 708-848-6755, or in the OPRF Museum Gift Shop, Lombard and Lake, during regular museum hours.
