An apartment building near the intersection of Lake street and Kenilworth Avenue in Oak Park caught fire Friday morning, causing damage that will displace some residents.
Oak Park Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at an apartment building in the 100 block of Kenilworth Avenue at 11:46 a.m. where they saw “heavy fire” coming from the fifth and sixth floors on the east side of the building, according to village spokesperson Dan Yopchick.
Firefighters responded with a quick water attack to bring the blaze down to a manageable size, before using a hose line to finish extinguishing the fire, Yopchick said.

The structure is seven stories tall and contains 59 condo units. It was built in 1970, Yopchick said.
One person was inside the unit where the fire began, but made it out of the building unharmed. One other unit was damaged by smoke and another was damaged by water. The residents of those three units made unlivable by the fire are being assisted in finding temporary shelter, Yopchick said.Â
No injuries have been reported and crews are still on scene putting out spot fires as of 1:15 p.m. OPFD is investigating the cause of the fire, but have not yet released any information, Yopchick said.
This is a developing story.
