In these times our moral compass and our faith compel us:
When we are told not to believe what we see with our own eyes
When we are suddenly at war with Iran without Congress declaring war
When we are told legacy media is fake news or that late-night comedians must leave their networks
When we see neighbors ripped from their families by masked men and immigrants who have committed no crimes are stalked and detained
When our elected leaders are afraid to dissent
When basic human services are being stripped from families, veterans, international students, seniors, and when entrance is denied to 75 nations arbitrarily
When our multicultural nation is told by edict that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are now suspect
When an administration purposely dismantles health care and education
When allied nations are taxed and demeaned
When you can no longer be silent; when you know in your heart this is not the America we have known and loved,
We protest!
We come outside, we make noise, we honk our horns, we chant and wear unicorn and dinosaur costumes, we wave flags, we make posters, we wave more flags, and we tell others:
We Must … In These Times … Protest!
And when marching is not feasible, we write postcards, we call our state representatives, we sign petitions, we donate, we write letters to the editor, we stay informed, we encourage others to register to vote, we add our prayers, and we vote. This is what democracy looks like.
