Maria Luisa Kane (nee Bruno), 75, died peacefully on Feb. 28, 2026, in River Forest. Born on Aug. 25, 1950, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, she lived a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion.

Her family will carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her life was a testament to her compassion for others and her steadfast belief in the power of faith to guide and uplift.

Maria was the daughter of Roque Bruno and Carmen Rolon, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her brothers, David Bruno, Roberto Bruno, Manuel Bruno and her sister, Nereida Bruno Otero.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Daniel Kane, and her former husband, Ernesto Gonzales with whom she raised her children, Ernesto (Wanda), Carmen (Manuel), David (Maria) and Daniel (Wilma) Gonzales; her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and her brothers Roque Bruno and Manuel Antonio Bruno.

A wake will be held on March 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Peterson-Bassi, 6938 W. North Ave., Chicago.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Housing Forward of Maywood and St. Edmund Parish of Oak Park.
