Boys swimming and diving  

At the West Suburban Silver conference meet held at Lyons Township, Feb. 7, OPRF placed fifth with 137 points. Senior Charlie Beyer had a pair of top-6 showings for the Huskies. He was sixth in the 100-meter breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:03.13 and sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.15. OPRF’s 200 freestyle relay team of Cameron Kuenster, Connor Harmon, Francesco Canzona and Dominic Kramer was fourth in a time of 1:30.26. 

At the Metro Catholic Aquatic Conference meet held at Loyola Academy, Feb. 6-8, Fenwick High School came in fourth with 252 points. 

Although the Friars did not win an event, they achieved several notable results. Senior Mikey Neumann finished second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:58.75. His classmate, Jack Posluszny, was third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.87 seconds. 

Two other seniors accomplished personal-best times in their respective events. Sawyer Collins was fourth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.79, and Thomas Caicedo was fifth in the 50 freestyle in 22.60. Sophomore Hugo Gibson was third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.31. 

Fenwick’s 200 medley relay unit of Gibson, Posluszny, Neumann, and Caicedo finished third in 1:36.81. 

OPRF and Fenwick will compete at the Leyden Township Sectional, Feb. 21. 

Boys basketball  

Both OPRF and Fenwick have struggled this season as the teams try to turn things around with the state tournament looming. 

In a non-conference game at Deerfield, Feb. 7, OPRF received 12 points from Trent Williams, 10 points from George Gray, and six points apiece from Matt Halper and Cam Woods. However, the Huskies (6-18) fell to the Warriors 56-46 as their losing streak hit five games. OPRF has WSC Silver games this week at Proviso West, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m., and visiting Lyons Township, Feb. 14, at 1:30 p.m. 

Meanwhile, Fenwick (8-15) dropped its seventh consecutive contest, Feb. 6, 44-42 at Wheaton St. Francis. The Friars host St. Ignatius, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m.
