Due to a major snowstorm that forced Illinois State University in downstate Normal to close its campus, Saturday’s IHSA Class 6A football title game between Fenwick and East St. Louis has been postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, December 3, 6 p.m., at Hancock Stadium.

The three other games originally scheduled for today – Providence Catholic vs. St. Francis (5A), Brother Rice vs. St. Rita (7A), and Mount Carmel vs. Oswego (8A) were also postponed. The Providence-St. Francis game will be played at 3 p.m., Dec. 3. As of Saturday afternoon, the rescheduled dates and times for Brother Rice-St. Rita and Mount Carmel-Oswego had not been announced.

While the delay is understandable given the hazardous conditions today (many regions across the state, including the Chicago area, could see between 6 to 10 inches of snowfall), the rescheduling for Tuesday came as a disappointment for some fans online, who will now need to travel on a school night.

However, at the same time, the break gives Fenwick a few extra days to prepare for East St. Louis, one of the state’s top teams. It also allows the Friars to let some injuries heal up as they’ll need all hands-on deck in order to prevail.
