
John W. “Jack” Egan, 79, died on Oct. 24, 2025 in home hospice. He grew up in Berwyn a was a graduate of Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He went on to earn a master’s degree from Fordham and a JD from Northwestern.
He practiced for over 40 years at McKenna Storer and Egan & Egan as both a lawyer and a Certified Public Accountant. He built a reputation for integrity, a sharp mind, and dedication to clients.
He was a man of loyalty, and wisdom, whose legacy will live on through the lives of his family, friends, and colleagues. Jack, you will be missed and always remembered with love.
Through the Catholic Alumni Club, he met his wife of 42 years, Mary Sue (née Skala), and many lifelong friends. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and commitment to their children and grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his four children, William Egan, Norine (Gabe) Youel, Rosaleen (Kyle) Van Der Aa and Edward R. Egan; his grandchildren, Wade, Vivian, and Everett Youel and Lila and Samuel Van Der Aa; his siblings, James Egan, Joanne (Dick) Schickel, Kathy (John Brundage) Egan, Mary (Frank Navarrete) Egan and Edward J. (Ward Wilson) Egan. He was the uncle and cousin of many.
Visitation was held on Nov. 4 at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 S. York Road, Elmhurst. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Nov. 5 at St. Edmund Catholic Church, 188 S. Oak Park Ave., Oak Park. Interment Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside. Livestream of funeral Mass available through the funeral-home website.
