Sally Lombard

Sally Lombardo (née Bonfield), 72, died on April 22, 2025. Born on Nov. 13, 1952 and raised in Oak Park, she made a late-in-life move to Minneapolis, where she loved walking along the “Old Man” Mississippi River and Lake Nokomis. A career nurse and staunch believer in the dignity of every human life, she found joy in caring for others, as well as in the sun, in music (a particular affinity for David Bowie, Tom Waits, and Father John Misty), and in the company of her incredibly lucky children, grandchildren, and many dear friends. She will be extraordinarily missed.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Tony Lombardo, and her parents, Peggy and Edward Bonfield. She is survived by her children, Adam (Jodi), Erin (Tom), Molly, Heidi (Matt), and Claire; her grandchildren, Matthew, Greta, Phoebe, Charlie, and Marcus; her perfect dog, Ellie Mae, and “granddogger” Renee. She was the sister of Edward, the late Joseph, Michael, Peggy, Katie, and Tom.

A gathering to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 24, from 1-4 p.m. at Pleasant Home, 217 Home Ave. in Oak Park.

In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the ACLU or the animal rescue organization of your choice.
