Mark Hosty, the state central committeeman for the 7th Congressional District, joined fellow GOP Illinois delegates to rally behind former President Donald Trump at this week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He was joined by three local delegates from the district: Thomas Mannix, John Bergholz, and Adrian Wright.

The district, represented by Congressman Danny Davis, a Democrat, includes Oak Park, Forest Park, River Forest, LaGrange and Maywood.

Neither Mannix, a former Forest Park Village commissioner, Bergholz, of Oak Park, nor Wright, of Chicago, could be reached for comment.

Hosty declined to comment to Wednesday Journal.  But he shared his thoughts on Trump’s choice for the vice presidency, Ohio Sen. JD Vance with NBC.

“I think him coming from a swing state is going to be key,” Hosty told NBC. “It’s going to bring in more electoral votes. I think he brings a lot of energy to the ticket. I’m very excited by the pick.”

The party sent 64 delegates to Milwaukee, including newly elected chairperson of the Illinois Republican Party, Katy Salvi, an attorney from Mundelein.

Salvi, who was named to her position a day before Trump was shot, immediately reacted to the incident on X.

“The Republicans of Illinois are united and stand with President Trump. We express our full support for President Trump and his family. We appreciate the prompt response by law enforcement and the Secret Service,” Salvi wrote.

Following the assassination attempt, Trump said on his Truth Social platform that he decided to not cancel his appearance at the RNC.

“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win,” Trump posted on Truth Social on July 14.
