Jeffrey James Herner, 37, died in his home on May 7, 2024. Born on May 12, 1986 in Oak Park, he had a bright smile and charming personality. His natural charisma brought joy wherever he went. He graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 2004 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Eastern Illinois University in 2010. During his time at EIU, he was a pivotal part of developing the men’s travel volleyball team and they went on to win a national championship in Salt Lake City, Utah.

His summers growing up were spent in Hayward, Wisconsin, where he developed a second family while working and playing on Round Lake. During that time he became an expert water skier and worked at the Original Famous Dave’s restaurant on Round Lake for many summers. He became the first skiing Wilber the Pig mascot, bringing many smiles to families and is still remembered for it today.

Jeff is survived by his father and mother, Jeff and Christine Herner; his sister, Elizabeth Krall, her husband Rudy, and their two children Jacob and Nicholas. He is also remembered by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of life was held on May 14 at Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home in Forest Park.
