Robert Spadoni, former RUSH Oak Park Hospital vice president and chief operating officer, was sentenced to a year and a half in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing $622,500 from the hospital.

U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly also ordered Spadoni to pay that same amount he stole, $622,500, in restitution to the hospital.
Spadoni admitted that from 2013 to 2021 he orchestrated a billing scheme to defraud the hospital out of money. He did so by approving payments to a vendor company that was supposed to provide the hospital with administrative and compliance services, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
The vendor company, Medical Education Solutions, was fabricated by Spadoni to execute his scheme, the court found. The hospital paid $6,500 per month for services not provided. Spadoni stole those payments through a bank account in a family member’s name, the court found. He then paid a hospital employee $1,500 to provide the administrative and compliance services.
Records show that Spadoni used the $622,500 he obtained through this scheme to pay for restaurant meals, hotel stays and to transfer $225,805 into a 401(k) account.
