Resurfacing, streetscaping and utility improvements are expected to start on Madison Street during the week of Feb. 26.

The project between Oak Park Avenue and East Avenue will be a months-long endeavor, according to the village manager’s weekly report. The improvements will span a four-block stretch, with estimated completion Nov. 15.

As of October 2023, the estimated cost of the project is $5.25 million, with $4.38 million from capital funds.

Water main work is anticipated to start the week of March 4. The project will also include new street lighting, traffic signal upgrades, curb and sidewalk replacement, brick paver installation, landscaping improvements, new signs and roadway resurfacing, according to the report.

During construction, traffic will still be two-way on Madison Street, but minor delays may occur. Parking on both sides of Madison Street within the construction zone will be temporarily removed, according to the report.

At least one sidewalk will be open for pedestrians, and access will be maintained to all businesses in the area during hours of operation, according to the report. Businesses impacted by the work and nearby residents will be made aware of the upcoming project, officials said.
