While a Wisconsin resident was exiting his vehicle at about 10 p.m. Feb. 4 at the 300 block of Home Avenue, a dark color SUV traveling south parked next to him. Four or five men, all with handguns, exited the car, police said. One of the men struck the victim in the head with his handgun. The men then stole the victim’s backpack, containing two iPad Pros, and his iPhone 11 before getting back in the car and driving away. The estimated loss is $1,100. 

At roughly the same time on Feb. 4 at the 300 block of Home Avenue, five people exited a black SUV and approached an Oak Park resident who was walking his dog. One of the individuals struck the victim with a handgun and stole his jacket. The five individuals then fled in the SUV. 

Criminal sexual abuse  

An Oak Park man was arrested for criminal sexual abuse Jan. 31 at the 800 block of Des Plaines Avenue, Forest Park. The incident occurred against a Chicago resident Jan. 20 at the 200 block of South Maple Avenue. 

Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon  

A Chicago man, riding as a passenger in a vehicle stopped for traffic, was found with a loaded handgun after a search. The incident occurred on Jan. 31 at the 700 block of South Austin Boulevard. The man was arrested and held for bond hearings. 

Criminal trespass to property  

A Chicago man was stopped and detained for criminal trespass to an Oak Park business on the 100 block of North Harlem Avenue on Feb. 4. The man had refused to leave the business. He was issued a citation and released. 

Criminal damage to property  

  • Someone broke the rear driver’s side window and damaged the rear driver’s side bumper/taillight of an Oak Park resident’s red 2015 Kia. The incident, which occurred between Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 at the 400 block of Wesley Avenue, resulted in an estimated damage of $3,000. 
  • Someone used a prying tool to get through an exterior door to an ATM of an Oak Park business on the 6700 block of North Avenue on Feb. 4. The person then used a cutting tool to try to get through the ATM safe door hinge, but was unsuccessful. The estimated damage is unknown. 

Motor vehicle theft   

  • An Oak Park resident heard an alarm from her red 2020 Hyundai Elantra Jan. 29 at the 100 block of South Austin Boulevard. She went outside to check where the vehicle was parked and found it missing with glass on the ground. The estimated loss was $15,000. The Berwyn Police Department recovered the vehicle Jan. 31 at the 1200 block of Kenilworth Avenue in Berwyn.  
  • Someone stole an Oak Park resident’s white 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee between Jan. 29 and Jan. 30 at the 100 block of Linden Avenue. The estimated loss is $35,000.  

These items were obtained from Oak Park Police Department reports dated Jan. 29 – Feb. 5, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
