The Oak Park and River Forest High School boys won the West Suburban Conference Silver Division indoor track and field championships March 17 at Proviso West. The Huskies finished with 132 points, well clear of runner-up Lyons Township (108).

Sophomore Caleb Schulz had an impressive meet for OPRF, winning both the 55-meter dash in 6.57 seconds and the 200 dash in 22.67, both personal bests. 

Schulz was also the anchor leg on the Huskies’ winning 800 relay (1:32.05), which had David Flint, Kevin McGovern and Elijah Mowatt as the first three runners.

OPRF’s other winners were senior Liam Newhart in the 3,200 meters (personal best 9:28.48) and senior Josh Meister in the pole vault (14 feet, 6 inches). 

OPRF girls indoor track

At the WSC Silver indoor meet held March 17 at York, the OPRF girls track and field team placed fifth with 41 points.

Senior Reese Garland was the only Huskies athlete to win an event, taking the shot put with a distance of 39 feet, 3 inches. Junior Taylor Smith placed second in the triple jump (33 feet, 11 inches), while sophomore Bella Brauc took fourth in the 300-meter dash (personal best 43.06).

Fenwick and Trinity indoor track

The Fenwick High School boys track and field team placed 10th at the Chicago Catholic League Indoor Championships on March 19 at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Center in Chicago with 23.5 points.

Senior Grayden Rill was the Friars’ only event winner, taking the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:22.95. Junior Nate McKillop was second in the 3,200 meters in a time of 9:42.74.

The Fenwick girls team finished sixth at the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on March 17 at the Worrill Center with 39 points.

Sophomore Gabrielle Simon won the 200 meters for the Friars in a time of 26.81, while senior Bella Daley was third in the 1,600 meters (5:18.74) and fourth in the 800 meters (2:23.07).

Trinity High School was 10th at the GCAC meet with 22 points. Senior Laura Murphy had the Blazers’ best showing, finishing second in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 11.75 inches. 

Fenwick boys water polo

The Fenwick boys water polo team went 3-1 at its 23rd annual Dan Lynch Classic on March 16-18.

On March 16, the Friars (6-2) defeated crosstown rival OPRF 12-4. Chris Badja had five goals in the victory. On March 17, Fenwick edged past Parkway Central (MO) 7-6. Owen McDonald had two goals and four assists.

In the semifinals March 18, the Friars fell to defending state champion New Trier 9-5. Badja and Finn Vahey each scored a pair of goals. But Fenwick bounced back in the third-place match, knocking off Lyons Township 10-8.
