Gary Stephen Osga, 77, of Oak Park, died on Dec. 21, 2020 in Oak Park. The eldest child of Clarence and Pearl Osga, he was born born on April 26, 1943, in Detroit, but raised in Traverse City, Michigan. He attended St. Francis School and high school in Traverse City and attended Northwestern Michigan College for two years before finishing his education at Loyola University Chicago where he received his bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in labor relations, and completed his doctoral work in education.
A career educator, he worked first as a teacher, then as a principal, then joined the staff of the Illinois State Board of Education from which he retired after 28 years. He loved polka dancing, traveling, James Bond movies, Agatha Christie movies starring Miss Marple and Poirot, water- and snow-skiing, and boating and enjoying the house on Long Lake.
Gary Osga is survived by Kristi, his wife of 52 years; his sons, John (Katie) Osga, Aaron (Claudia) Osga, and Adam (Theresa) Osga; and four grandchildren, Owen, Teagan, Vaughan and Tamsen.
He is survived by four siblings, Barbara (Dad) Hubbell, Joseph (Jennifer) Osga, Catherine Osga and Steven (Cindy) Osga, and a sister-in-law Anne Osga. His parents and one brother Jerome Osga predeceased him. He is survived by 10 nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
