FRANKLIN PARK, IL – The West Suburban Special Recreation Association Board of Directors recognized Mark DeSalvo, Executive Director of the Norridge Park District, for his dedication, contributions and support of WSSRA at the March Board Meeting.

Mark DeSalvo has served as the Norridge Park District Representative to the WSSRA Board for 25 years and will be retiring from the Norridge Park District in May.  During his tenure on the board, he has served on the Finance, Planning, Policy and Executive Committees. 

Over the years, Mark has participated in long range planning and visioning for the Association. He included WSSRA in the master planning and transformation of the Norridge Park District facilities and parks to be sure persons with disabilities needs were recognized and met.  He gave full access to all Norridge Park District facilities for WSSRA programs, events, staff trainings, and WSSRA Board meetings.  He represented ALL residents of the Norridge Park District including persons with disabilities, by ensuring the availability of leisure opportunities that enhance self-esteem and provide support to families.

Mark DeSalvo has through his leadership, indisputably enhanced the lives of WSSRA participants and their families.

WSSRA provides recreation programs for adults and children who have a physical impairment, a mental disability, or any other type of disability. Through WSSRA, residents of all ages can participate in year-round programming specifically designed to meet their individual needs. WSSRA serves the communities of Berwyn, Cicero, Elmwood Park, Forest Park, Franklin Park, Harwood Heights, Norridge, North Riverside, Oak Park and River Forest.
