Plus size clothing has become such a hot button topic in the news, but it’s something that Avenue has been doing for over 30 years. As a plus size brand, it is important to Avenue that customers feel comfortable in every aspect of the clothing. In addition to regular plus sizes, Avenue offers extended sizes 28-32 in pants, dresses and swimwear. Likewise, the company offers petite and tall pants and denim. Mayor Robert J. Lovero stated, “Cermak Plaza has had a tremendous upswing in the past four years. We are now at 100% occupancy in the shopping center and have a lot of positive activity at this corner of Cermak Road and Harlem Avenue. We are happy to welcome you to the neighborhood.”
BDC Board President Jousef Mondragon concluded, “The opening of Avenue marks the tail end of the revitalization of Cermak Plaza. We are excited to welcome you to Berwyn at the finish line both for your store and for the shopping center.”
Cermak Plaza’s Phase III redevelopment project reduced the shopping center’s vacancy rate from 11% to full occupancy on the largest retail property in the City of Berwyn – a feat that has not been accomplished in several decades. What’s more, the redevelopment also increased retail space by 7%. In total, Phase III included the opening of a new Ross Dress for Less, new Avenue store, new LongHorn Steakhouse outlot and the redevelopment of the McDonald’s outlot.
