GrandMaster S.H. Yu, Oak Park’s original Martial Arts icon, owner of Master S.H. Yu Martial Arts, respected teacher to generations of local children, youth, teens and families, with students worldwide, was recently in his native South Korea at The Kukkiwon World TaeKwonDo Federation attending the 2016 World TaeKwonDo Leaders Forum where he was appointed to the Kukkiwon International Advisory Board, responsible for promoting and developing TaeKwonDo worldwide. In this role, he will be poised to lead the future of TaeKwonDo through his lifelong dedication to art, purpose, health, and human development.
GrandMaster Yu, who has dedicated to Martial Arts study, practice, and teaching for more than 50 years, is a lifelong learner himself, pursuing degrees in not only Tae Kwon Do (he is a 9th-Dan), but Hapkido, Gumdo (he is a World Haidong Gumdo (Traditional Swords) Master), Artistic Weaponry, Karate and Kung Fu. A natural martial arts choreographer, his students easily grasp the self-defense sequences and artistic forms, seamlessly presented in his own, inimitable style. He remains one of the few active, practicing GrandMasters, who dedicates first to his students and his duty to teach.
Master S.H. Yu Martial Arts is proud to call Oak Park Home, serving the community since 1994, first in a small, 2nd floor space above Erik’s Deli on Oak Park Avenue, to our current home on the corner of North Avenue and Linden. The purpose of the business has remained, which is as a Premier Martial Arts Education Center, promoting Martial Arts as a Lifestyle, to improve the health, longevity, enjoyment, safety, and personal awareness of the practitioner, whatever the age. Classes are offered daily, Monday through Saturday, for children, youth, teens, adults. All Instructors are taught exclusively from the ground-up by GrandMaster Yu, are all certified by Kukkiwon, The World Tae Kwon Do Federation, and pass rigorous quarterly testing to attain his own high standards of excellence.
