Last year when a friend of mine was making some life changing hard decisions I bought her a bracelet set from Ten Thousand Villages. Made by an artisan in Nepal for Ten Thousand Villages, I knew it was fair trade wages. The set is created so that the giver keeps a bracelet and gives the match to someone who needs an extra emotional lift. It helped me pray or meditate for her frequently during the day and if she chose to wear hers – she could find relief in knowing I was trying to carry some of her spiritual burden. It felt so personal to me that I was grateful to the person in Nepal who made the bracelet. I prayed for that person too.
I know this weekend I will make an intentioned purchase to support what a Nepal artisan had created before the tragedy of the earthquake. I might purchase another bracelet set .
Still, I’d like to be able to help aid organizations address the overwhelming need for immediate assistance.
This morning, a matching contribution opportunity came up in my Facebook feed. If I gave through Facebook they would match it. But it was quick, and I didn’t see where Facebook was sending the money. It sparked some Facebook based curiosity.
So, I asked in a Facebook post, “Where to give?” I got some great answers:

Some of those suggestions are in the article from PRI. All of the suggestions seem worthy to me. As I make an intentioned purchase to support continued work from artisans in Nepal, I’ll make an extra donation to a relief organization. And I’ll pray.
