North Avenue Fresh Market has reopened after a seven-month hiatus under new ownership and with a new name, Market Fresh Foods.
Thomas Casaccio, co-owner of the 13,000-square-foot grocery store at 6209 W. North Ave. in Oak Park, said he and the store’s staff are busy tending to their new customers.
Jim Casaccio, co-owner, said Market Fresh Foods opened up Feb. 3, shortly after a blizzard dumped 19 inches of snow on the Chicago area.
It is the Casaccios’ second grocery store in the Chicago area. The Casaccio family has owned and operated Market Fresh Foods at 800 N. Kedzie Ave. for 20 years.
A brief walkthrough of the store revealed an extensive produce selection and deli counter.
North Avenue Fresh closed its doors unexpectedly in July.
Thomas Casaccio, co-owner, said the group began renovation on the building in October.
“It all had to be gone through and rebuilt,” he said. “It was a lot of work.”
The store has been open for a little more than a week, but Thomas Casaccio said the grand opening was Wednesday, Feb. 11.
He said the store launched the soft opening to better get to know their customers and their needs. “It’s been pretty quiet here so far,” he said.
“We’re going to see what the customer feedback is and what they’re looking for,” he said.
The store is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
