A few years ago, the Oak Park village board passed a ridiculous ordinance requiring owners to shovel snow in front of their house. Don’t even think about taking a winter vacation, lest some irate neighbor rat you out for not clearing your sidewalk while away, not to mention the elderly and disabled who own homes but are unable to shovel. How ironic that the biggest offender in my neighborhood is the village itself. After Sunday’s storm, you couldn’t walk along Harrison Street because of the piles of snow on the south side of Maze Library. The snow blocked the handicapped entrance ramp — exactly the population the ordinance was supposed to help. Amazing.

Editor’s note: As of Thursday, and possibly before, the ramp at Maze was clear.
