Bushels of bundled books are cropping up in Oak Park as “A Good Book is Always in Season,” a new book selection service, debuts at all library locations this fall.
Gretchen Rings, Digital Services Librarian, came up with the idea for the program. Rings says, “The idea was born a few months back after a conversation I had with a local mom about her love for library books and how she felt hard-pressed for time to browse and select them on her own. Around that same time, the library was encouraging staff to envision new services that help us all reach out to the community more directly. As a librarian who normally works behind the scenes and does not develop library events, I wrote up the idea, and later was thrilled to learn it was selected to receive a mini-grant to help bring it to life and deliver it to the community.”
Starting this month, custom designed canvas tote bags are available at all library locations, filled with books hand-picked by library staff for:
- Adults (nonfiction and fiction picks)
- Families with little kids (and mom and dad, too!)
- Families with big kids (and mom and dad, too!)

The bundled library materials are for check out, but the custom canvas bag is yours for keeps. After returning materials, feel free to bring the bag back to refill it with more of the library’s pre-selected bundles on display. Our hope is that this new service will help when you’re in a hurry, and delight you with easy exposure to authors and series new to you.
Come in and get your bag before they’re gone!
