Mary Ruth Hurley Cullicott (nee Fairman), 103, died on Sept. 3, 2014 at her home in River Forest. Born in Oak Park on Aug. 31, 1911, she was a graduate of Ascension Elementary School, Trinity High School and Rosary College. Throughout her life,
she served her church and community. She was an active member of St. Luke Parish in River Forest for 43 years, donated her time and energy to Oak Park Hospital where she was the longest-serving volunteer for 45 years, and was involved in Misericordia, Trinity High School and the OP-RF Infant Welfare Society. In recent years she spent her time knitting scarves, lap blankets and baby blankets for the homeless and various other charities. She cherished her life, her family and her faith in the church.
Mary Ruth Cullicott is survived by her children, Honey (George) Gfroerer and Molly (Richard “Whitey”) King; and her step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann (Larry) Martin; her first husband, whom she married in 1934, Neil C. Hurley and with whom she had her three daughters; and her second husband, George E. Cullicott.
Visitation was held Sept. 6 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, followed by Mass at St Luke Church in River Forest. Interment took place at All Saints Cemetery.
