A Monday of fun with gadgets, games and gizmos for children K-8th grade on the Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday school holiday.
  • Monday, January 20, 2014 (one day) from 8 am to 3 pm
  • Open to all children from any school in grades K through 8th
  • At Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School in Oak Park
  • $65 for children K-5th, $75 for children 6th/7th/8th
Gadget Day for K-5th grade includes “On a Roll” (LEGO vehicle-building fun), Mousetrap (and other 3-D board games), Sculpture that Moves (build a mini rickshaw) and Wheels in Motion (gym games with things that roll). The kids will be grouped by age to move through all four activities.

Gadget Day for 6th/7th/8th grade offers a choice of either Build A Bike for (boys and girls) or Build A Bird (for girls only).
Build A Bike: A bus trip in the morning will take up to 20 kids to Working Bikes Coop in Chicago to learn the basics of bike maintenance, tool handling and how repaired bikes are sent overseas to communities in need. The afternoon back at Brooks will be spent creating truly one-of-a-kind art creations out of spare bike parts and found objects.
Build A Bird: For girls only, the day will be spent at Brooks with tech staff from Triton College creating a chirping Digital Bird using circuit board, soldering iron and tech tools. Each bird will become a girl’s unique creation as its body and wings are added using found and recycled materials.

Gadget Day promises to be a Monday full of hands-on fun with gadgets, games and gizmos!
