OPRF’s resident dance company Orchesis will be performing its fall showcase this weekend. Orchesis is a rigorous extra-curricular composed of extremely talented OPRF dancers.

Following their auditions in September, members of Orchesis have been rehearsing several times a week leading up to this performance.  Three seniors even choreographed pieces for members to perform in addition to the ones choreographed by the two OPRF teachers who run Orchesis, Ms. Dunson-Johnson and Ms. Kanwischer.

The group performs a range of dance styles including lyrical, jazz, modern, hip hop–you name it!

“Even though a lot of us are doing contemporary, modern, whatever we come up with, there’s still a lot of variety that shows off the different personalities of the choreographer,” junior Karina Donayre says.

Indeed, many members have to learn the necessary skills for multiple genres of dance.

Junior Juliette Nye says her favorite dance is one of the student-choreographed ones because “it’s really, really fun to do and full of energy–plus it’s a genre of dance I’ve never tried before!”

She also says that she loves participating in Orchesis since “everyone is so helpful and nice to each other and we’re like a family!”

Certainly, this terrific exhibition of the talent in the OPRF dance program is not to be missed.

The shows are Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. in the Main Auditorium at OPRF High School. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.
