A male victim told police he was walking in the 100 block of Lake Street around 9:40 p.m. on May 24 when he was approached by three men who appeared to be around 18 years old. One of the men allegedly displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s money, while a second man allegedly searched his pockets and stole $60. The group fled eastbound on Lake.

Confronted, thieves return stolen iPhone

Two male juveniles who appeared to be 13-years-old took a female victim’s iPhone around 2 p.m. May 21 in a store in the 7100 block of North Avenue and fled. The victim followed the two and encountered them in a nearby alley, where she demanded her phone back. The boys complied and returned the phone. They fled down the alley. No loss was reported.

Narcotics arrests at OPRF

A juvenile Oak Park resident was arrested for delivery of a controlled substance at Oak Park and River Forest High School the morning of May 22. The juvenile appeared in court and was turned over to a parent. An 18-year-old female resident of River Forest was arrested for unlawful possession of a controlled substance, issued a court date and held for bond hearings.

The same day, an Oak Park juvenile was arrested at the high school around 3:20 p.m. for disobeying a police directive. He was issued a local ordinance ticket and turned over to his mother.

Laptop stolen and other thefts

A Dell laptop was stolen from an unattended backpack in the 800 block of S. East Avenue the morning of May 21.

Tools were reported stolen from an unlocked pickup truck parked overnight in the 900 block of Wenonah May 20-21.

A man’s gold wedding ring was reported stolen from a drawer in his room in the 100 block of Erie Court between May 21-23.

A woman’s wallet was stolen from her unattended purse around 10 a.m. May 21 at a business in the 100 block of Lake Street

Burglaries

Someone pried open the rear door to an apartment in the 100 block of S. Austin the afternoon of May 23 and removed a 47-inch LG flat screen TV, two 32-inch Emerson flat screen TVs, a gray laptop and a Wii game system. Estimated loss was $1,450.

Someone kicked in the front door of a residence in the 1100 block of S. Austin during the day May 23. Reported removed from the home were a book of checks, and two bank credit cards.

Pit bulls on guard

Oak Park police said two pet pit bull dogs deterred burglars to a residence in the 600 block of S. Ridgeland Avenue during the day May 23, even though burglars broke the side entrance door knob and defeated the lock mechanism.

Phony gift card customer finally caught

A 31 year old man from Chicago was arrested May 23 at Fuego Logo restaurant after the manager recognized him as a customer who had paid for his meals with fraudulent gift cards more than once before. He was charged with theft-by-deception and was also found to have an active warrant for criminal trespass to auto from Chicago.

Violating order of protection

A 54-year-old man from Bensenville was arrested for violating an order of protection around 11:45 a.m. May 23 in the 1100 block of Lake Street.

These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports filed May 20-23 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
