I’ve been going to Katy’s Dumpling House more regularly than any restaurant in the past, oh, fifteen years.
I’ve loved just about everything I’ve had there.
Last Saturday night, I had a dish that I actually didn’t like so much: the fried noodles.
The noodle strands were boringly uniform, kind of greasy, and just not very, um, interesting. These noodles were the first I’ve had at Katy’s that didn’t knock me out.
We also ordered a platter of shredded pancake (basically a bunch of noodles fried with vegetables and tofu), and this dish was much better, the chewy, irregular cut adding dimension to every bite.
So, out of the past six meals or so at Katy’s, I had one that was not killer. I’m glad to add this data point to the mix lest my high regard for this place appear, shall we say, uncritical.
This is perhaps the last time I’ll write about Katy’s Dumpling House…or perhaps next-to-last.
