College recruiters are no doubt happy to see Nile Sykes back on the football field. OPRF High School’s 6-foot-1-inch, 215-pound defenseman broke his foot during a scrimmage before the regular season began, but he returned to action Sept. 28 for OPRF’s come-from-behind win over Lyons Township.
Sykes, a junior, has already received offers from such schools as Illinois, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Toledo. He visited Michigan State back in September.
“It was great having him back in the lineup against LT; he instantly provides a spark,” said OPRF head coach John Hoerster. “However, not having him on defense for the majority of the season has given others opportunities to contribute, while also demanding that key members of the defensive unit step up and help carry the load.
“I have been very proud of how our team has risen to the challenge, maintaining competitiveness and tenacity on the defensive side of the ball while Nile has been recovering from his injury. Now that he is back, he will be able to add to the cohesiveness of this unit.”
According to ESPN Chicago, Sykes is considered to be one of the Chicago area’s top 2014 prospects.
