Phil Carmody, president of the River Forest-based Opportunity Knocks, has been named a winner of the first responder’s round of the General Motors Our Town, Our Heroes contest.

Carmody, a firefighter from Naperville, will get a new GM vehicle loaned to him for a week and a special prize package. John Halgren, who nominated Carmody, will also get a week-long loan.

Carmody is president of the board of directors for Opportunity Knocks, an organization that helps challenged adults in the community. The organization was founded by his brother, Mike.
