Benjamin Moore Dalila 319

When I was growing up in Connecticut we did not go back to school before Labor Day. Labor Day was the official end to summer vacation. So I appreciate the tough time some kids have here trying to get back in the homework groove that first week, knowing there’s a three day weekend coming up!

But if after a couple weeks back to school you find that your kids still have trouble settling down to do homework, then add some yellow to their workspace. Yellow helps to activate the memory and stimulate the mental process.

Bring in yellow by switching notepads to yellow paper, painting a desk yellow, using yellow folders or storage bins, or placing a yellow frame on the desk surface. The yellow shouldn’t be overwhelming; just noticeable enough to stimulate the brain.

Here are some of my favorite Benjamin Moore yellows:

  • Dalila 319
  • Sundance 2022-50
  • Hawthorne Yellow HC-4
  • Sweet Butter 171

If you’re painting a wall or an entire room yellow, just choose a hue that matches the intensity (the brightness or dullness of a color) and value (how light or dark a color is) of the other colors in the room. And remember: the larger the surface – such as walls – the less intense the color should be. Otherwise it might be too distracting to concentrate!
