Richard F. “Dick” O’Hara, 90, of River Forest, formerly of Oak Park, died on Aug. 18, 2011. A graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School and St. Benedict College, during World War II, he was a member of the 392nd, 8th Air Force, Army Air Corps. After the war, he had a long career at Sears Roebuck & Company.

Mr. O’Hara volunteered at St. Giles Parish and was a member of many organizations, including the Oak Park Chamber of Commerce. He loved golf, fishing, the Chicago White Sox, Notre Dame football, and most of all his family. His love of life and people was contagious, and he was a positive influence on all the lives he touched.

Dick O’Hara is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen “Honey” (nee Ryan); his children, Kate (Tim) Hemlock, Jan (Michael) McNamara, Rick (Cathy), Terry (Sally), Madeleine (Pete) Jordan, Bill, Mary Ellen (Dan) Duffy, Ray, and Sharon (Dave) Habiger; his grandchildren, Elyse, Ian, Megan, Sean, Patrick, Tim, Brendan, Colin, Leslie, Carrie and Hannah; and his brother-in-law, Don. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack; his sister-in-law, Dacia; and his sisters, June and Janet.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at St. Luke Church, Lake and Lathrop, in River Forest, followed by private interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, attn: Voluntary Service (135), 5000 S. 5th Ave., Hines, IL 60141, are appreciated.
