Fourteen years ago, the Journal named Rev. Randolph Thompson our Villager of the Year. Today we mourn his death at the too early age of 55.

There is so much to admire in the life and work of Rev. Thompson. Then as now, we focus on the passion and the pragmatism he brought to working with youngsters in our village. This man was a doer. Friday Night Place opened the gym at Percy Julian Middle School for teens. His work on the Gang and Drug Task Force was both wide-ranging and street specific. He founded Fellowship Christian Church on Madison Street, at a time when white Oak Parkers were still fearful of black churches.

Randolph Thompson was a true leader and he will be missed.
