Betty Van Wyk, 71, died on Nov. 14, 2010 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a reporter, township clerk, and a Zonta member. As an education beat reporter for many years with the Oak Leaves, she ran as an independent and was elected as a township trustee from 1981 to 1985, followed by a long tenure as township clerk through 1997. She became communications director for Oak Park and River Forest High School, where she served as advisor to Tau Gamma, the high school’s service organization for girls. She later became a certified financial planner until retiring in 2005, then volunteered with Township Senior Services, offering her financial knowledge to senior citizens. A tireless advocate for the local chapter of Zonta International, she was a Unity Temple member and supported the Oak Park Conservatory and the Oak Park Regional Housing Center.

You are invited to a celebration of Betty’s life on Saturday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m. at Unity Temple, 875 Lake St. in Oak Park. Please RSVP by March 26 to 708-442-8021.
