Oak Park and River Forest High School Dance Program

On March 26, nine dancers from the Orchesis Dance Company at Oak Park and River Forest High School will perform at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, Chicago’s premiere performance space for contemporary dance in Chicago. These talented dancers, who will perform a contemporary ballet by Giordano Jazz dancer Meredith Schultz, are part of a choreographic initiative developed by Julie Salk, Fine Arts Chair at Barrington High School and Nan Giordano, the Artistic Director for Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago. This creative initiative began two years ago with the goal of invigorating the jazz dance scene in Chicago. Another major objective of this effort has been to provide professional dancers in the Giordano Company the opportunity to choreograph their own works to be performed by promising high school dancers interested in learning more about the professional dance world outside of their schools.

The evening of dance will feature two performances. At 6:15 p.m., the encore presentation of the Giordano Choreography Project, originally presented last February, at Barrington High School, will feature ten student groups from area high schools, including Oak Park and River Forest. Each of these student groups will perform the choreography of Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago Company members.

The second performance of the evening will begin at 8 p.m. and will feature the Giordano Jazz Dance Company in LiveLife.DANCE! This program will premiere two new works, “Sabroso” by Del Dominguez and Laura Flores and “Sanza” by Artistic Associate, Autumn Eckman. In addition to these two new works, the Company will present audience favorites “Taal,” choreographed by Artistic Director Nan Giordano with live performance by vocalist SheetalBhagat, and “LeGrande Futur is Here!,” choreographed by “So You Think You Can Dance” judge, Mia Michaels.

The nine OPRF student dancers, Celina Madden, Samantha Gerace, Katie Williams, Ariella Chavarria, Tori Seitleman, Emily Christopherson, Kirsten Cabacungan, Erin Yen and Lian Dick, will be featured in a contemporary ballet, Cosmic Love, performed to the music of Florence and The Machine. All of these students are members of the Orchesis Dance Company at OPRFHS under the direction of Lucy Riner and Ann Petroliunas.

The Giordano Choreography Project and LiveLife.DANCE! performances are open to the public. The Harris Theater for Music and Dance is located at Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. Tickets for the show on March 26 can be purchased at or
