Terri (Neufeldt) Race, a native and longtime resident of Oak Park and River Forest, died on Dec. 12, 2010. A 1971 graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School where she was captain of the varsity cheerleaders and a member of A Cappella Choir and Mixed Ensemble, she attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas on an academic scholarship, graduating in three years with a teaching degree in Spanish. She earned a graduate degree in 1975 from the International Graduate School of Business (Thunderbird) in Phoenix.
Her professional career began in 1976 as a bank examiner for the Comptroller of the Currency, and she frequently received overseas assignments examining foreign exchange operations of U.S. bank branches.
As her family began to grow, she retired in 1986 to become a homemaker and a strong supporter and administrator of River Forest Little League and AYSO soccer, helping both programs expand in the 1990s. She also taught Sunday School at First Presbyterian Church in River Forest.
With four children in local public schools, she launched a second career in 2000 as a technical aide with District 90, supporting teachers and students as the “go to” person for hardware installation and software training. Her devotion to Dist. 90’s technology initiatives was, after family and sports, her passion.
