Oak Park and River Forest will likely be feeling the effects for weeks – if not months – after a vicious storm rocked the villages last Friday with rain and 70-mph winds.

Sixty trees in Oak Park were damaged so severely that they’ll need to be removed, and another nine have been removed in River Forest.

The storm knocked power out at more than 3,000 homes and businesses in Oak Park on Friday, along with an unspecified number in River Forest, according to ComEd.

About 70 tree limbs blocked streets in Oak Park in the wake of the storm, and 20 or so trees fell on cars or homes, said Public Works Director John Wielebnicki. Village crews were out till around midnight Friday clearing the wreckage.

Officials from both villages are asking residents to place storm debris on the parkway near the curb for crews to pick up. It will likely take a couple of weeks to clear up all the branches and brush.

There were no reports of injury or flooding in either village.
