The Park District of Oak Park was awarded a matching $400,000 state grant for scheduled improvements to Taylor Park. The Open Space Land Acquisition and Development, or OSLAD grant, from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources was announced Friday, Jan. 29.

The money will be used for improvements to the district’s second largest park.

The work, which is expected to begin in the spring of 2011, will include replacement and expansion of the existing playground with ADA accessible equipment, replacement of the tennis courts, installation of an open air shelter and new interior pathways; and the establishment of a wetland-bioswale in the northeast corner to resolve drainage problems within the park site.

New park landscaping will also be added.
