Now that former Oak Parker Pat Quinn is finally governor (we all knew it was inevitable, I think), and since Illinois was already the bluest state in the Union, wouldn’t now be a good time to start moving a truly progressive agenda in Springfield? Isn’t it about time, for example, to abolish a death penalty law that a Republican governor (!) made obsolete? Even though most of us already think adults should be free to marry whomever they choose, isn’t it time at least for a civil unions law in Illinois?

Gov. Quinn has long been the kind of leader to follow the lead of ordinary citizens rather than focusing on politics first. Since he didn’t campaign for governor and thus didn’t have to lay out an issues agenda, why don’t we help give him one?
