While unbuckling her infant from a car seat after a run to the grocery store, an Oak Park mother was robbed in front of her home Wednesday afternoon and threatened with being shot.

The woman, who was left unharmed but shaken, said a car pulled up right behind her as she arrived at her home on the 800 block of

Wenonah Avenue
after running an errand. She was unbuckling her 7-month-old daughter from a child-safety seat when she saw a woman getting out of the car.

“I turned around, assuming she was looking for directions or wanted to talk with me,” the Oak Park mom said.

Instead, the woman getting out of the car approached, her right hand wrapped in gray cloth and extended, as she yelled, “Give me your purse, bitch.”

After the woman handed over her purse and a diaper bag, the second woman told her, “Don’t look at me. Don’t look at my car, or I’ll blow your f—ing head off.”

The robber, described as black and in her 30s or 40s, then got in her car and drove off.

The Oak Park mother said Oak Park police arrived quickly after she called 911 from her house. She said she cancelled her credit cards, but not before $50 in gas and two online charges-each about $2,500-went through.

Police put out a description of the car and the partial license plate number.

Detective Commander Clemet Harbour said investigators are looking into whether the robber may be part of a Maywood team of two women and one man recently arrested in Berwyn.

“We’re looking into all aspects, including whether they got everybody from that crew,” said Harbour, who added that often such robbers follow their targets from locations such as grocery stores.
