Dear Editor Dan Haley:

I recall how upset you have been with me as a trustee. In fact, I recall how much venom you can spew. After years of reading Wednesday Journal, I finally see how low you have sunk as an editor/owner of a paper.

Yes, Geoff Baker is resigning. Yes, his absence has irritated the trustees that do the work that he skips. Yes, he has a strong ego. We all have our quirks. Geoff is wrong about the study sessions being a waste of time, and he is wrong about how the budget sessions are conducted. He has not lived up to the responsibilities that he was elected to do. Yes, the people who slated him and voted for him have a right to be upset.

On the other hand, he has done the honorable thing by resigning in a way that the citizens can vote in his replacement. He could have resigned in a manner that the board would have had to again appoint someone. This way the voters will decide.

Dan, the personal venom from your pen is a bit disproportionate to the issue [Baker bails. Now let’s do better, Dan Haley, Oct. 25]. I recall how you lecture people on what they say and write about others and remind us all to remember, “They have families.” It is clear from your comments about Geoff that if you are slinging the mud, it’s OK in your eyes.

No matter who writes to you on this issue, you will believe that you are right. Seems to me you owe Geoff Baker and his family an apology. In fact, you owe the community an apology for using a community newspaper to spew your venom.
