River Forest police help crack $28,000 Maywood heroin ring
A River Forest police street stop in early May led to information allowing area police departments to execute a search warrant in Maywood that netted heroine, crack cocaine and ecstasy with a street value of $28,000, according to a River Forest police press release.
Chicago foundation pledges $10 million toward Unity Temple restoration
As part of a joint campaign, Oak Park's Unity Temple will receive $10 million toward the cost of its foundation's restoration efforts, according to a preliminary agreement announced today in a joint statement from the Alphawood Foundation Chicago and the Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Congregation.

The second- and eighth-grade students, dressed in First Communion and Confirmation clothes, lead a procession, bearing the statue from the school to the church on a special bier.
Harrison Street Arts District to host "What's Blooming" festival

This weekend, art lovers and festival-goers alike can mingle in the annual What's Blooming on Harrison Street, which kicks off 6-10 p.m., Friday, May 17, and runs from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., the following day.
Abu-Taleb spent $23,000 on Oak Park presidential campaign

If dollars were votes, the race between newly elected Village President Anan Abu-Taleb and his opponent, John Hedges, wouldn't have been much of a contest. Abu-Taleb snagged 58 percent of the vote, but he also raised and spent more than three times the amount Hedges' Oak Park Together committee expended. Abu-Taleb's campaign costs also included a hefty amount from his own wallet.
