Spring is here and we are all excited! That which seemed impossible, now seems possible. We are busy making our annual unrealistic plans of conquest and domination. Let’s tackle the domination first.

We would really appreciate finally gaining the upper hand with our house, with which we have been fighting a losing battle for the 13 years we have lived in Oak Park. But it is spring! And we shall prevail! Our home shall become immaculate, cunningly decorated, aromatically welcoming, a retreat from … excuse us? You’ve harbored these same dreams? Then let’s go to At Home, the free program by Oak Park photographer William Frederking on Thursday, April 13, at 7 p.m. at Oak Park Public Library (383-8200). We’ll see inspiring photographs from the artist’s book about his own home, and we shall not guffaw, nor shall we whine in defeat. We shall be inspired to turn our own home into a photo op. It’s spring!

Now, on from domination to conquest. Don’t come to us later and throw this back in our faces, but we are seriously considering starting to ride our bicycle to work, instead of driving. Why not? It’s good exercise, and it would help the environment put off, for one nanosecond, its inevitable demise from global warming. So we’d be doing a good thing for us and for you! You’re welcome! Maybe we’ll even bike to the Green Tuesday in the Village program on “Urban Forestry” on Tuesday, April 18, at 7 p.m., also at Oak Park Public Library. If they open the floor to a discussion after the presentation, which is about our beautiful trees in Oak Park, we’ll tell everyone about our new spring bike habit, so that everyone can congratulate us. “Thank you!” we will murmur modestly. “We owe it all to spring!”
