A registered gang member with a past conviction list that includes attempted murder of a police officer, assault, larceny and more was picked up by the River Forest Police Department on May 13 in connection with a residential burglary that occurred earlier this month.
Vito Spiezio, 60, of the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue in Chicago, was arrested outside of his home and charged with two counts of felony theft, for a burglary that occurred at a residence on the 1300 block of Jackson Avenue in River Forest on May 5.
The River Forest police tracked Spiezio down with the help of the Chicago Police Department Pawn Shop Unit. A camera taken in the burglary was located at a Chicago pawn shop, and traced to Spiezio.
Spiezio is currently on parole for other felony convictions, and is allegedly a member of the Latin Kings gang.
“He’s definitely a career criminal,” said River Forest Sergeant Marty Grill. “It just goes to show that we do have career criminals that are in our area.”
Grill said that prison time is possible for Spiezio based on his parole status, but because he was not arrested for a crime against a person, it might be less likely.
Grill said there wasn’t a slew of evidence in this case, and it doesn’t appear at this time that Spiezio can be tied to any other crimes in the area.
