The Fenwick Hockey club recently announced the hiring of Kurt Kabat as new head coach.

Kabat, who grew up in Melrose Park and played his youth hockey locally, spent four years at the collegiate level playing for UIC. While there he helped his team earn a Final Four appearance in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. He then played for four seasons in the semi-pro East Coast Hockey League, where he helped two teams win a total of three Riley Cup Championships.

Kabat’s coaching career spans 16 years, where in that time he’s racked up seven state championship appearances, including four state titles, one U.S. Regional Championship title, and one U.S. National Championship title.
